We are officially two weeks away from when the real countdown to the New Year will begin. Have you thought about what your resolutions will be this year? Even if you have, the truth is that most of us have an extremely hard time when it comes to actually keeping them. If you’re one of those people who have “Travel more” on their list of goals for 2014 however, please do yourself a favor and don’t let that one get lost amongst the bunch.

Travel Resolutions for the 2014 New Year | Blue Horizon Travel

Resolve to experience new parts of the world this year; better yet – resolve to truly enjoy it when you do. Here’s how:

Be Spontaneous – For some of us, it is all about following a strict itinerary or how else are we going to see every single aspect of our destination? This year, take a step back and go with the flow; don’t be afraid to wander and get lost. Find a corner café off the beaten path. A vacation should be a time to have fun, so leave the stress and over-planning at home.

Talk with Locals – Vow to learn a bit on your vacation. You will find that there is much more to learn from the locals as opposed to a tour guide, your Yelp app or web forums. Locals can point you in the direction of Peru’s “best restaurant” or maybe some unknown history on your destination.

Relax – Include one day during your holiday that has absolutely nothing planned. Sleep in, spend the day on the beach or walk around a market. Sure you want to get your fill of all things vacation during your time here, but a trip is also time to rejuvenate yourself before you head back to the hectic work week.

Overcome a Fear – Your vacation might be a once in a lifetime opportunity so why not make the most of it while you can? Try to do one thing during your stay that scares you. Go skydiving or try a local delicacy that you would never dream of trying back home. Whatever your fear is, you should try to overcome it. After all, you only live once!

As we enter 2014, make a resolution to commit to enjoying your vacation, after all, you worked hard all year – you deserve it.
