After departing from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, guests will land in San Jose, Costa Rica, where day one guests can enjoy exploring the capital city of the nation and discover unique sights and tastes of this nation. On the second day, the tour disembarks and sets out for Tortuguero National Park, where guests will explore a dormant volcano and crater lakes in the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Guests will then be traveling to the Caribbean lowlands and Tortuguero, cruising the rivers and canals with a guide. The incredible views of the mountain vistas and the Caribbean-style villages will amaze you! There will be a two-night stay at an eco-lodge in the middle of the tropical rainforest. Upon arrival, there will also be an opportunity to visit Green Turtle Research Station – the world’s first research facility – to learn about the behaviors, habitats and eggs of the turtles that are native to the area.

Tortuguero National ParkOn day three, guests will enjoy a bird-watching expedition and cruise through the park to see some of Costa Rica’s unique wildlife up close. Tortuguero is home to an incredible blend of freshwater and land animals, including more than 350 protected species of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and marine wildlife.

Day four brings a leisurely boat ride to the mainland and a trip to the Sarapiqui region. On the way, the tour stops at an organic pineapple plantation and a cacao plantation, giving guests a chance to see two of the most important crops to Costa Rica and Central America’s economy. By evening, guests will arrive at a hotel at the food of the Tenorio Volcano where a night of restful sleep leads into a day five filled with river rafting and exploration of the native artisans and craft brewery wares of the residents along the shore of Lake Arenal.

On day six, guests will explore the culture of indigenous tribes with a visit to the Maleku Indigenous Village, with an evening free for exploration or a trip to see the Rio Celeste waterfalls. In the morning, the tour sets west, heading to the Pacific Coast and the world-famous Manuel Antonio National Park. Day seven includes exploring a spice farm and seaside village before settling in to lodgings overlooking the park and the Pacific beyond.

Three-Toed SlothDay eight is a relaxing beach day. Guests can walk along the beach and forest trails of the park, looking for native sloths, agoutis, iguanas and other native wildlife, or simply relax along the inviting blue waters of Costa Rica’s beaches. For the more adventurous, zip-line tours and nighttime nature reserve walks are available.

On day nine, guests will head north to see the Villa Blanca Cloud Forest, stopping at a coffee bean plantation along the way to learn about organic coffee growing methods used to create some of the best coffee found anywhere in the world. The day ends in San Ramon – “The City of Presidents and Poets” – for a tour overlooking the cloud forest. Day ten offers a visit to an organic farm, where guests can try their hand at farming as part of an immersive tour of the native lands in the cloud forest. The afternoon offers relaxing opportunities before a ceremonial tree adoption and farewell dinner, where you can appreciate Pura Vida – the good life – one last night before setting back out for San Jose and the flight home in the morning!
